The headlights
Pass over us
Burning into me with anticipation
The road
Beating, pulsing
Ringing straight through my ears
I can’t open my eyes
The room, buzzing
There is no one there
There is no hope here
The room that should be safe
Buzzes once again
I can only anticipate
I can’t open my eyes
The air is damp and cold
Touching dead skin
Touching what could have been dead
It’s dark and the sound
Rings over and over in my head
I can’t stop thinking
I can’t hope
